Edifier enters smart speaker market with the MS50A

Over the years we have reviewed plenty of stereo speakers and headphones from Edifier, but today the company has announced something new – a smart speaker. Dubbed the MS50A Classic, this WiFi-enabled unit is hitting the UK market at £129.99, offering support for numerous streaming services as well as Amazon Alexa.

As a standalone unit, the MS50A is very stylish in its design, with a wood veneer and fabric grille. Underneath the grille sit the two speakers, a 25W woofer and 15W tweeter which handle the mid-bass and treble, respectively. Edifier is keen to emphasise its HiFi credentials, too, claiming ‘full-bodied audio', while also pointing out the AP6265 chip, AMP, and DSP technology on offer. The frequency response is quoted at 52Hz – 18KHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 85dBA.

While sold individually, the MS50A can be paired with a second unit for stereo playback, and it also supports multi-room playback thanks to Amazon Alexa. With built-in no microphone, there is added peace of mind that no one is snooping on your conversations.

Alongside Alexa, the MS50A also supports Tidal HiFi, Spotify, TuneIn, and Apple AirPlay 2. Users also have the option to connect via BlueTooth 5.0 using the Edifier Home app, while touch controls are placed on the top of the speaker unit. A remote control also comes bundled.

The Edifier MS50A is available from Amazon UK right now, priced at £129.99. We expect to have a review of this speaker in next few weeks.
