Dead Space Remake won’t require Origin if you buy it on Steam

Since returning to Steam a couple of years ago, EA has kept Origin account linking in place for game purchases on Steam, but some titles have exceptions and are natively available on Steam without the need for Origin at all. In the case of Dead Space Remake, it will be getting a native Steam release. 

Having EA titles back on Steam has been great to see, but the need to keep Origin installed in order to play certain titles is a bit of a letdown. EA has been slowly allowing more games to drop Origin requirements though, and the upcoming Dead Space Remake will be one of those titles. As reported by PCGamer, an EA rep confirmed this, saying “Dead Space is native on Steam”.

This doesn't necessarily mean EA will do this for all future releases though. The Steam page for Respawn's upcoming Fallen Order sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, lists Origin as a requirement. With that in mind, it is difficult to gauge the criteria EA has set for games that can be ‘native' on Steam and which ones still need to be tied to Origin.

Dead Space Remake is launching on the 27th of January for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. EA revealed the game's minimum and recommended PC system requirements earlier this week, alongside putting the game up for pre-order.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully one day we'll see all major EA releases become native on Steam, but for now, we'll have to live with EA's seemingly random cherry-picking strategy.
