Destiny 2 PvP is finally getting skill-based matchmaking

PvE content has always been the true centrepiece of the Destiny games, but there is still a pretty big PvP audience. There have been plenty of complaints about Destiny 2's PvP over the years, from its map pool and lack of modes to rampant cheating as well as issues finding fair matches. Starting next month, Bungie will finally be overhauling Destiny 2 PvP, starting with the addition of skill-based matchmaking.

In this week's development update, Bungie confirmed that skill-based matchmaking is now coming to certain PvP (Crucible) playlists in Destiny 2. The new system will prioritise matching up players in certain skill brackets to lead to more competitive matches and fewer one-sided games.

Skill-based matchmaking will aim to keep the average win rate between 40% and 60% for most matches, and there should be less variance between players at the top and bottom of the leader boards.

The new skill-based system won't apply to all Crucible playlists, but there should be more skill-based modes for Crucible as we transition from Season 18 to Season 19.

The skill-based matchmaking update will drop on the 23rd of August, the same day that Bungie will be revealing the game's next major expansion, due in early 2023.

KitGuru Says: This seems like something that probably should have happened a long time ago. Hopefully by the time we get to Lightfall, Destiny 2 PvP feels more like a core part of the game.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
