FIFA 23 launches in September with limited crossplay, PC version will be current-gen

EA has unveiled the first FIFA 23 trailer showing some gameplay and revealing some of the new features coming to the latest entry of the famous football videogame series. Moreover, it also revealed the release date and how you can benefit from a three-day early access to the upcoming title.

As EA said, the new FIFA entry will focus more on Women's football, featuring the first cover with a female football player, Sam Kerr. In addition, you'll also be able to play for the first time with the women's club teams from two leagues: Barclays Women’s Super League from England and Division 1 Arkema from France. After the game releases, EA promises to deliver two free updates covering the men’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

The trailer suggests FIFA 23 will be an improvement over FIFA 22, updating some of the systems already present in the prequel. Some changes coming to the game include the new HyperMotion 2 technology, better overall physics, and slightly better visuals. Additionally, the game will also feature a Stunning-shot-like mechanic that allows players to shoot more accurately and harder while taking more time to prepare the action and a new dead-ball (free kicks, penalties and corners) system.

Ultimate Team will also see some changes. Besides the redesigned chemistry system, there's also a new sub-mode called FUT Moments. More details about these two things will be shared later.

Cross-play will also be available, but it will be somewhat limited. For example, PS4 and Xbox One players can play together, but not with those on other platforms. The Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia players will be able to play with each other. Those on Switch will be isolated from the rest, as they will be playing the game's Legacy Edition, pretty much the same as FIFA 22 Legacy Edition.

Lastly, there will be three FUT transfer market pools. PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Stadia will have one shared between them. As for the PC and Nintendo Switch, each will have its own FUT transfer market pool.

FIFA 23 will release on September 30th, but Ultimate Edition pre-orders and EA Play Pro subscribers will be able to play it three days earlier. Other benefits from pre-ordering include multiple FUT items, dual entitlement for consoles, 4,600 FIFA points, and a career mode homegrown talent.
