Nvidia removes Lite Hash Rate limiter with its latest graphics driver

Nvidia introduced the hash rate limiter during the RTX 30 series life cycle in an effort to discourage purchases from crypto miners and get more stock into the hands of gamers. Now, Nvidia seems to be dropping the hash rate limiter, with the latest drivers unlocking mining performance on all LHR GPUs.

As spotted by Reddit user Timbers0007 (via I_Leak_VN), NVIDIA's Linux driver 520.56.06 and Windows driver 522.25 don't feature the LHR limiter. That means that any LHR card that once had its mining performance halved will now be fully unlocked if running on a system with the latest drivers.

The Reddit user shared a screenshot showing an RTX 3080 Ti mining at the expected full performance without any limiter removal feature on ethminer. Here, you can see the GPU mining at about 112-113MH/s. In addition, the user stated that other algorithms like Autolykos also seem to work without limitations.

Considering many mining apps now have a way to bypass the LHR limiter, removing the feature isn't as groundbreaking as it may seem. Still, Nvidia should have at least listed the change in its patch notes. Nvidia has not officially said anything new regarding LHR and the hash rate limiter.

KitGuru says: Do you agree with Nvidia's decision to remove the LHR limiter? Should Nvidia roll back the update and reintroduce the feature to the graphics driver?
