Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake moving studios as development hell continues

It has been almost two years since Ubisoft first announced Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. Due to the reaction to the initial reveal trailer, Ubisoft quickly delayed the game to address feedback. The game was then delayed again, and again, seemingly stuck in development hell. Now, the project is switching studios entirely.

In another development update last night, Ubisoft confirmed that The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to a new studio. Previously, the project was in development at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. Now, the project will be handled by Ubisoft Montreal, one of the publisher's flagship studios, with development support from the pair of Indian studios.

“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready”, the statement reads.

The Sands of Time Remake had already been in development for quite some time before it was announced, but the fan reaction to the new visual style seemed to throw a wrench into Ubisoft's plans. Most recently, Ubisoft scheduled the game for release in the current fiscal year, ending in March 2023. However, given that the project is now moving studios, we can expect that to no longer be the case.

KitGuru Says: A Prince of Persia remake should have been a sure-fire success, but decisions made early on in the development process have really hampered its development. Hopefully things will improve and speed along now that Ubisoft Montreal is involved.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
