Nvidia MX550 laptop GPU benchmarked

Nvidia hasn't forgotten the MX series of mobile GPUs. Late last year, the chip manufacturer announced it would launch two new MX500 GPUs, the MX550 and the MX570. Unfortunately, we still don't have any benchmark results of the latter, but the former has already been spotted on the PassMark database.

As per the entry spotted by @TUM_APISAK (via Tom's Hardware), the Turing-based graphics card offers about the same performance as a Radeon Vega iGPU.

Comparing it to the Vega 8 iGPU found on the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS, the performance of the Nvidia GPU is just a tad higher (4968 vs 5014). The margin is so small we could even consider that the two perform the same in this particular benchmark. However, it is worth noting that one benchmark does not paint an accurate picture of real-world performance.

The Nvidia MX550 uses a TU117 GPU and won't feature RT cores. According to the manufacturer, this GPU will release in laptops this spring.

KitGuru says: Considering a dedicated mobile GPU increases the cost of a laptop, do you think it's worth adding one such as the Nvidia MX550 if the iGPU of the processor offers comparable performance?
