Intel claims rumoured Arc A780 GPU was ‘never planned’

Recently, there have been rumours that Intel has a more powerful Arc GPU than the A770. Supposedly, the Arc A780 would the same GPU as the A770, but with higher clock speeds and 16GB of memory. While that would be nice, Intel has shot down the rumour, claiming that such a GPU was never planned. 

Ryan Shrout, the Chief Performance Strategist at Intel, took to Twitter to deny the rumours surrounding the A780, claiming such a SKU never existed. This denial also seems to confirm that the A770 will indeed be Intel's flagship discrete graphics card.

Despite some rumors to the contrary, there is no Intel Arc A780 and there was never planned to be an A780. Let’s just settle that debate. ?

Moore's Law Is Dead, a content creator that has reported accurate information in the past, responded to Shrout's denial, branding it as a damage control attempt. They also claim that Intel could not match RTX 3070 performance using the same-sized die.

Without the A780, there's still the possibility that the full desktop GPU line-up will have five SKUs. We already know about the A380, A770 and A750, and references to an A310 and A580 have also been discovered in Intel driver code.
