Sony to reveal PlayStation ‘Spartacus’ subscription next week

Back in December, we first learned that Sony is planning its own games subscription service known as ‘Spartacus’. The new subscription will combine PS+ and PSNow, while also offering a library of classic PlayStation titles for a monthly fee. According to sources this week, Sony will be launching this new subscription next week. 

After the initial Spartacus leak back in December, it was revealed that Sony plans to charge between $10 and $16 USD per month depending on which tier you subscribe to. These three tiers are known as PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium. The Essential package is just PS+ as you currently know it today, with a few free games per month offered to subscribers, as well as access to online multiplayer. The Extra package adds on a selection of freely downloadable PS4 titles and the Premium subscription also allows you to download classic games from the PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP eras.

Sony has yet to announce Spartacus publicly, or even acknowledge the leaks in recent months. However, as reported by Bloomberg today, Sony will be launching its new subscription service next week, combining PS+ with PSNow.

With that in mind, we'll hear more in just a few days time, including finalised details on each subscription tier, included content and pricing around the world. Currently, the rumoured prices show that the new PS+ tiers will be more expensive than the Xbox equivalent.
