Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 gets free demo this week

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 became one of the highest-rated shooters of 2024 but Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive are not done with the game just yet. Following on from a massive Anniversary Update this summer, the developers have now made a free demo available across all platforms.

From today until October 20th, players on Xbox or PlayStation consoles can play the free demo, which will let you try out each of the game's playable modes. On PC, the demo will be available for a bit longer, lasting until October 23rd on Steam.

If the demo scratches an itch, then you will be pleased to know that the full game will also be purchasable at a 50% discount during this same time period and you won't lose any of the progress made during the demo.

Alongside all of this, there is a limited-time Discord quest, so if you link your Discord and Steam accounts, you can claim some extra goodies, including an exclusive Bolt Rifle skin to use in-game.

KitGuru Games: DLSS 5 misses the point

It would be hard to argue that NVIDIA’s DLSS technologies haven’t been a net positive to the PC space, with the machine-learning based upscaler successfully translating lower resolution inputs into a final image which is perceivably sharper while hogging fewer resources. Though somewhat more contentious, the next evolution of DLSS came in the form of Frame Generation, using ML in order to generate additional frames for high-refresh rate gaming. Both techniques can have their issues, but generally speaking they’ve allowed for more people to experience higher-end titles at increased frame rates. DLSS 5, however, takes a sharp pivot, with a very different end goal in mind than the performance-boosting versions that came before.
