Official online PlayStation store to launch in the UK soon

The video games industry has always relied on retail shops to sell consoles, games, accessories and more. Of course, this comes with added costs and prices for consumers. PlayStation is now offering a way to cut out the middleman as their new ‘PlayStation Direct’ store is set to open in the UK soon.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official German PlayStation account said (as translated by Google) “The http://direct.playstation.com Store is coming to Europe, starting with today's official launch in Germany. The UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will follow shortly. Visit the store for more information!”

PlayStation Direct is an online store where you can buy video games, consoles, accessories and more directly from the manufacturer. While companies such as Nintendo and Microsoft have for years allowed fans to purchase directly from them, PlayStation have not. It is therefore exciting to see this new store coming to many European countries. Hopefully the shop has a much better system to manage the high demand for PS5 consoles.

The one thing we do not yet know is whether prices will be reduced to reflect the reduction in costs brought about by purchasing directly from the business. That being said, as PlayStation will still need to appease the other retailers, it is unlikely. Even so, the US PlayStation Direct offers free express shipping for PS Plus members, so it looks like there will be ways to incentivise buying direct from PlayStation.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
