G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5 memory sets 8704MHz world record

The DDR5 generation has officially begun and overclockers are quickly racing to set some new world records. Throughout the DDR4 generation, G.Skill was at the forefront of overclocking, with its memory being used to break world records a number of times. That won't be changing with jump to DDR5, with G.Skill Trident Z5 breaking a world record already.

Trident Z5 is G.Skill's premier DDR5 memory solution, aiming to offer the highest speeds to consumers. On the 4th of November, a system featuring an ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 APEX motherboard and an Intel Core i7-12700KF processor was used to set the world record for DDR5 memory speed, reaching 8704MHz.

G.Skill, ASUS and extreme overclocker “hocayu” worked together to set this record, using LN2 to cool the system to subzero temperatures and push the memory to its absolute limits. In the gallery above, you can see the validation screenshots.

This extreme overclock comes just days after G.Skill achieved 7000MHz speeds on its Trident Z5 DDR5 memory modules. We're still early in the DDR5 generation, so consumers can expect speeds of up to 6800MHz for now, but companies are already working on memory targeting speeds above the 7GHz mark, so there is still plenty of room for the DDR5 market to grow.
