Among the many different new IPs which Sony published during the PlayStation 3 era, one of the most underappreciated was InFamous – a series of relatively bleak open world titles which perfectly blended the notion of power fantasies; responsibility; morality and choice. Developed by Sucker Punch, the series has been on hiatus ever since the team moved on to Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei. That said, according to insiders, Sony could be attempting to bring InFamous back in one form or another.
During the most recent episode of the VGC Podcast, known insider Jordan Middler revealed that Sony appears to be working on something InFamous related, stating: “There is a groundswell of people that want InFamous. I'm under the impression that there is an InFamous thing happening somewhere else in PlayStation at the minute, not tied to [Sucker Punch].”
Middler then expanded on this during an appearance on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, adding that “I was told at some point that an InFamous project is in development somewhere at PlayStation”. That said, Middler made sure to note that “it’s not something I can stand up with two sources.”
Despite this, the insider appeared to have confidence in their source, stating “you hear things on the wind, and I feel like my wind has a pretty good track record.”
In terms of what this project actually is, Middler could not confirm, however they did claim that “when I was told about it I fully assumed the person was referring to a remake of 1 and 2. That wasn’t told to me directly but that was very much implied.”
It is worth noting that Middler claimed that the project was in the works “at some point”, meaning it could have since been cancelled. Still, the notion of a new InFamous entry in any form is highly exciting. Hopefully whatever project was in the works manages to make its way past the finish line.
