Xbox Live Gold no longer required for Free to Play games

Late last month, Microsoft began publicly testing some upcoming changes to Xbox Live – including free multiplayer access for free to play games like Call of Duty Warzone and Fortnite. Now, Microsoft's big change is rolling out to all Xbox users, making over 50 games to be played online without an Xbox Live Gold subscription. 

Microsoft fell behind the times with Xbox Live Gold during the Xbox One era, continuing to charge for multiplayer access for free to play titles while the likes of Nintendo and Sony dropped subscription requirements for these games. Now, Microsoft has caught up, with Xbox Live Gold no longer required to access multiplayer in free to play titles.

This means games like Destiny 2, Call of Duty Warzone, Fortnite, Roblox, Apex Legends, Rocket League, Path of Exile, Phantasy Star Online 2 and more no longer have a ‘hidden fee' attached to them. You can see the full list of free to play games on Xbox HERE.
