Microsoft has been testing its xCloud game streaming tech on Android for almost a year now and soon, Xbox Cloud Gaming will officially spread to other platforms. Microsoft is kicking off public beta testing for game streaming on PC and iOS this week.
As reported by The Verge, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be accessible via a Chrome, Edge or Safari browser on iOS and PC using the xbox.com/play URL. Those who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be invited to participate in closed beta testing across 22 supported countries.
It sounds like Microsoft plans to move swiftly towards an open rollout, with plans to “iterate quickly and open up to all Xbox Game Pass members in the coming months”.
This will be the first time that Xbox Game Streaming has been available on iOS, after plans for a dedicated app fell through due to Apple's App Store rules for gaming apps specifically. This is the same reason that Nvidia, Amazon and Google have pivoted to web-based streaming for Apple devices.
