Blizzard adds 120Hz option to Overwatch on Xbox Series X/S

Blizzard has finally begun upgrading Overwatch for next-gen consoles. In a patch this week, the developers added Xbox Series X/S enhancements to the game, bringing additional graphics modes – including a 120Hz mode.

Overwatch on Xbox Series X/S will now have three different performance/graphics presets. The first is “resolution”, which as you would expect, runs the game at 4K on the Series X or 1440p on the Series S at 60 frames per second. There is also a “balanced” mode that brings the resolution down to 1440p and 1080p on the Series X and Series S respectively, but bumps up the quality of graphical effects while maintaining 60 frames per second.

Finally, there is the “Framerate” mode, which is the big addition for the new Series X/S consoles. In this mode, the game will run at 1440p and up to 120 frames per second on the Series X and 1080p at up to 120 frames per second on the Series S.

Enabling higher frame rates was one of Microsoft's biggest goals when designing its new consoles and so far, a lot of developers have followed suit. Soon, even backwards compatible games will run at up to 120Hz. Currently, there is no word on 120Hz support coming to Overwatch on the PlayStation 5.

KitGuru Says: I've been impressed with the next-gen consoles so far, mainly due to the number of high frame rate games. Hopefully this becomes the new standard over the next few years.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
