Nvidia showcases Minecraft with RTX

RTX support for Minecraft was announced back at Gamescom 2019. It already looked impressive at the time but over the following months, more work has been done and today, Nvidia is sharing another sneak preview ahead of release.

Minecraft with RTX is coming very soon and to show off what is possible when you combine Minecraft with ray-tracing technology, Nvidia enlisted the help of three Minecraft map creators, whose work you can see below:

Of Temples and Totems RTX is an adventure map with different temples with various challenges. complete with ray-traced shadows and global illumination. The second map, Imagination Island RTX, is an explorable theme park with four distinct lands that showcase a different ray-tracing effect. Finally, Crystal Palace RTX is a survival map featuring a huge castle built to a 1:1 scale, further showcasing ray-traced lighting and shadows.

For those that might like to make their own maps that take advantage of new graphical effects, Nvidia has created a series of tools and guides to get people started. This includes converting Java worlds into RTX worlds, how to create your own PBR texture packs and more.

Nvidia has been working with Microsoft to enable full path-tracing for Minecraft, which includes traced reflections, shadows, caustics, global illumination and more. Combined with PBR textures, Minecraft with RTX will also get per-pixel emissive lighting and volumetric effects. A final release date for this version of the game has yet to be revealed, but we are told that it is releasing quite soon.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
