Nimbus Data launch record-breaking 100TB SSD

Despite the amazing feats of Samsung in the last couple of months, Nimbus Data has taken the record for the largest single solid state drive. The Nimbus Data ExaDrive DC100 clocks in at an impressive 100TB and will be available to purchase this summer.

Nimbus explains that the new device will make use of 3D NAND flash memory that can store up to 20,000 HD movies, or 20 million songs, with read and write speeds sitting at 500MB/s each. While the price of the DC100 as yet to be revealed, it is expected to cost a pretty penny. Luckily Nimbus is shipping it with a 5-year warranty to guarantee its users a replacement if they need.

This might seem quite the jump since Samsung supposedly broke new ground last month with its sizeable 30TB SSD. While Samsung had definitely achieved record performance for a drive of that size, Nimbus had already beaten the South Korean company to the punchline, having released its 50TB SSD in August 2017.

Luckily, this trend isn’t set to stop any time soon, as Nimbus predicts it will reach 500TB in its solid state drives by the year 2020. Of course, these still won’t be storage devices meant for commercial use, but could potentially drive the prices of currently available SSDs down as technology moves forward.
