Battlefield 6 on Steam will not require EA’s launcher

One of the biggest issues with PC gaming is the ability for a publisher to create its own bespoke game launcher. While in and of itself not a problem, many of these launchers are required even when using the likes of Steam or Epic Games. One of the biggest culprits in this regard is EA. Thankfully, the publisher has confirmed that Battlefield 6 on Steam will not require the use of the EA app.

As part of Battlefield 6’s big multiplayer reveal event, many FPS YouTubers and streamers were given the chance to check the game out early.

Following the event, known Battlefield creator Jackfrags confirmed that Battlefield 6 will offer native Steam support – meaning purchasing the game through Valve’s platform should allow you to launch the game without the need for EA’s 3rd-party launcher.

Of course, you’ll still be able to purchase the game directly through EA, but Steam users won’t have to go through the whole process of opening the app on Steam, only for it to then launch the EA app – at which point the game might finally start up.

Beyond this, decoupling the Steam version from EA’s app could have other benefits, from improved compatibility to accessibility options, added controller support and more. Unfortunately, Battlefield 6 still does not support the Steam Deck – though this is likely due to the game’s anti-cheat rather than the EA app itself.

Regardless, not having to contend with the EA app every time you boot up Battlefield 6 will be highly welcome to see, especially as over half a million Steam users have already wishlisted the game. Hopefully all future EA titles follow suit.
