Sony reportedly working on new PlayStation handheld for PS5 Remote Play

Earlier this week, rumours claimed that Sony was creating new PlayStation hardware, separate from the upcoming PS5 revision and rumoured PS5 Pro. It was quickly theorised that this could be a new handheld, like a PS Vita 2. Now, sources have clarified that Sony is working on a dedicated Remote Play device, rather than a native-gaming handheld.

According to sources speaking with Insider-Gaming, Sony's new PlayStation handheld is codenamed the ‘Q Lite' and it will primarily focus on being a dedicated PlayStation Remote Play companion device.

The handheld will apparently be capable of up to 1080p/60FPS streaming from a PS5 console to the handheld. Due to the setup, both systems would need constant access to the internet.

The Q Lite is said to be in the ‘QA' phase, meaning it could be ready to hit the market sometime in 2024.

KitGuru Says: The PSP was a beloved handheld but the Vita lacked software support to get players on board. If real, the Q Lite will be very different to both, acting as a console companion device, rather than a dedicated gaming system.
