LG unveil 1080p G Pad 8.3 tablet

2013 has been a tough year for Apple, their market share continues to slide as they struggle to release killer new products to grab the attention of the mass market. LG have decided to capitalise on Apple's inability to release an iPad Mini with retina screen. Their new G Pad 8.3 features a full 1080p display crammed into an 8.3 inch panel.

The 8.3 inch resolution ensures a 273 pixels per inch density, a high figure for a tablet of this size.

The tablet weighs only 338g, measuring only 8.3mm thick. This is slightly thicker than the iPad Mini, with the added benefit of a much higher resolution screen resolution. The new tablet features the QualComm Snapdragon 600 processor inside. With 2GB of memory and 16GB of internal storage, it should suit a wide audience. The company haven't skimped on the battery either, including a 4,600 mAh unit.

The G Pad 8.3 runs Android 4.2.2 and features LG's custom user interface on top. LG have added proprietary features such as Slide Aside which is a multitask by sliding an app off screen with three fingers. QSlide allows the user to run three applications simultaneously in a single window and KnockOn is a feature allowing the user to turn the screen on or off by simply tapping on it.

LG have yet to officially release pricing, but the release date is set for sometime in Q4. Apple may not get a Retina iPad Mini to market until 2014.
