AOC’s latest monitor takes aim at portability

While a decent laptop will go a long way when it comes to working on the move, for many, going from two monitors down to one will always feel like a downgrade for productivity. Fortunately, there are portable USB-C monitors out in the wild, and the latest from AOC seems particularly useful.

This week, AOC is launching the ‘I1601FWUX' 15.6-inch portable monitor. Lengthy model names aside, this slim and light display is small enough to slide into a backpack with a laptop, and is ready to pop up anywhere when you need to knuckle down and get the job done. The panel itself is 1080p and IPS, so viewing angles and brightness shouldn't pose any problems while away from your usual workspace.

The display itself is only 8.5mm thick and weighs 800g. The built-in kickstand also gives you the option of landscape or portrait viewing, it also doubles as a smart cover, allowing you to protect the screen when not in use. The USB C connection provides a DisplayPort signal and a power signal through a single cable, making it all simple and easy to set up.

The AOC I1601FWUX portable USB-C display will be available later this month. It launches with an MSRP of £199.

KitGuru Says: There are plenty of times where I've been working away from my usual desk setup and struggled with only having one screen. With that in mind, I can see something like this being very useful. Do any of you regularly work away from home with a laptop? Is a portable screen like this something you'd consider getting?
