Raspberry Pi now available for pre-order, sort of

The team behind the cheap-as-chips ARM mini-PC have just announced you can now pre-order your Raspberry Pi Model B units. If you're lucky enough to get a sucessful pre-order you should get your unit within 4 weeks or so by my estimates.

The Raspberry Pi team have partnered with Premier Farnell and RS Components to distribute units around the world, all in the name of saving you on shipping costs. These are currently the only known sites you are able to pre-order the device from.

Already it looks as if Premier Farnell's allocated stock has dried up already with estimated shipping time pushed back to 38 days, it was 24 days when I first got on the site.

Also announced is that the cheaper Model A version will now have 256 MB of RAM, up from 128 MB. This model is to be available for $25. The more expensive $35 Model B version offers 2 USB 2.0 ports and an ethernet port plus all of the perks of the cheaper model.

This first launch of Raspberry Pi is aimed more at technology enthusiasts with the official educational launch occurring later in the year.

Kitguru says: With high demand for such a unique and cheap product it is no surprise 10,000 units were snapped up so quickly.
