Sharkoon X-Tatic SX and SP Xbox 360 and PS3 Headsets Review

Both the Sharkoon X-Tatic SX and SP are built well and attractive to look at without having the impractical glossy plastic construction of the SteelSeries Spectrum 5XB.  We do feel, though, that the SteelSeries Spectrum Audio Mixer is a far more elegant solution than Sharkoons in-line control as it removes the need for a separate cable from the control to the Xbox controller.  It also removes the weight of the control from the wire and moves all of the volume controls to a much more easily accessible location.

The sound quality of the two headsets was reasonable from both the microphone and headphones on each headset although they weren’t quite up to the same standard as both of SteelSeries’ Xbox headsets.  The removable microphone is ideal for when you are watching movies but it’s unfortunate that you can’t remove the headset itself from the inline control and plug it into an MP3 player or smartphone.

We can see Sharkoon selling a lot of X-Tatic SP headsets to people looking for an affordable headset that is compatible with PC and both Xbox 360 and PS3.  It can be yours for a shade under £50 at Scan, and offers very good value for money considering the number of supported platforms.

For those who don’t need Playstation compatibility, the X-Tatic SX can be yours for just under £40 at Scan. A full list of Sharkoon products can be found at Scan over here. At this price, however, we feel the SteelSeries 4XB is a better buy as it can also be used as headphones for an MP3 player or smartphone – or even a headset if you pick up the right adapter.

Pros:

  • Attractive Deisgn
  • Low Price
  • Removable Microphone
  • PS3, PC and Xbox 360 Support (SP)

Cons:

  • Sound quality isn’t great
  • Comfort could be better
  • So many Cables!

KitGuru says: We think the X-Tatic SP is a good buy but the SX is bettered by the SteelSeries 4XB.
