Blizzard reportedly wants new Diablo games to release more often

Despite being one of Blizzard’s biggest IPs, Diablo as a franchise has had relatively few mainline entries, with ‘just’ 4 titles in total being released over the past 30 years. That said, things appear to be shifting behind the scenes, with one insider claiming that Blizzard “wants the waiting time between tentpole Diablo launches to be shorter.”

As reported by known Microsoft / Xbox insider Jez Corden via Windows Central, Blizzard are hoping to capitalise more greatly on the Diablo IP, with the leaker claiming to have heard that they want “the waiting time between tentpole Diablo launches to be shorter, although it's probably still too early for a reveal of Diablo 5.”

As mentioned, the Diablo series has been relatively reserved when it comes to pumping out new releases, with 2023’s Diablo IV launching an entire decade and then some following Diablo III. Likewise, Diablo III arrived 12 years after II.

Of course, in between each release fans were kept satiated with new expansions / DLC. Though this practice is set to still continue (with Diablo IV having already received 2 major expansions), it appears as though we might not have to wait until 2034 for the next mainline entry – for better or for worse.

KitGuru says: 3 years on, how are you feeling about Diablo IV? Would you welcome more sequels at a faster rate, or do you prefer the roughly 1 game per decade schedule? Let us know down below.
