Insider claims a new Crash Bandicoot game has been greenlit

One of the most exciting announcements from Microsoft’s recent Xbox Games Showcase was the official unveiling of Spyro: A Realm Beyond – the first brand new entry in the iconic mascot platformer in almost two decades. Set to arrive sometime next year, insiders have now claimed that not only will Spyro be making his grand return, but so too will Crash Bandicoot, with a new game said to have been greenlit by Microsoft.

As reported by insider No Arms and No Legs (who recently accurately leaked the existence of the aforementioned Spyro the Dragon game), a new Crash Bandicoot title has reportedly been greenlit at Xbox. As of now, no further details have been provided, including which studio is responsible for the project.

For context, unlike Spyro, Crash has already had his revival, with 4 titles in total having been released since 2017’s N. Sane Trilogy Remake.

The aforementioned remake was developed by Vicarious Visions and released back in 2017 to solid reviews and excellent sales. Following this was 2019’s Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled – a remake of the 1999 original, developed by Beenox.

Then came Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time in 2020: The first new and original entry in over a decade (developed by Toys For Bob). Last and also least was the multiplayer-focused Crash Team Rumble. This 2023 title was also developed by Toys For Bob, with them now moving on the recently-announced Spyro: A Realm beyond.

Given that Vicarious Visions essentially no longer exists, it begs the question as to which studio is working on this supposed new Crash game. Assuming it’s Toys For Bob, don’t expect an official announcement any time soon.

That said, if Beenox have been tasked with the project, then we could see it somewhat sooner. We will have to wait to find out. In the meantime, fans of classic mascot platformers will have Spyro to look forward to.
