Frontier files trademarks for new Planet series game

Frontier Developments has confirmed development of a brand-new franchise within its “Planet” management simulation series. Revealed via a Discord post by head of player engagement Richard Stephenson, the upcoming title introduces an entirely new setting distinct from Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo while maintaining the series' core creative and simulation mechanics.

Shared on Reddit (via Rock Paper Shotgun), Stephenson's post stated that the unannounced project has all the familiarity players love but moves into a completely new environment for the studio. It's unclear what the theme of this new series is, but the developer's newly filed trademarks give us an idea of where it wants to go next.

Frontier filed nine new trademarks, including Planet Resort, Planet Festival, Planet Farm, Planet Vacation, Planet Dinosaur, Planet Prehistoric, Planet Fantasy, Planet Mythical Creatures, and Planet Dragon. Some of these might simply protect the company from competition.

The developer's release schedule historically leaves a gap between major entries, with Planet Zoo 2 launching later this year. As such, it might take a while before we learn what new Planet series will come from Frontier.

KitGuru says: Of all the trademarks filed, which ones are the most likely to be the next major series from Frontier?
