The GT780DXR system is quiet when idle, with some minor fan noise audible when watching a bluray movie. The fan speed quickly rises when gaming, becoming clearly audible, rating at around 35 dBa. Maximum fan noise under synthetic stress conditions hits almost 38 dBa, which is quite annoying. It is not as quiet as the Asus G74SX and a lot of hot air is forced under the machine due to the vent system.
