Alan Wake Remastered screenshots show off improvements over original game

Earlier this week, Remedy officially announced the Alan Wake Remaster, with plans to launch the game for current and next-gen consoles, as well as PC. The announcement didn't go into much detail on visual improvements, but some comparison screenshots have now made their way online, showcasing the difference between the remaster and the original 2010 game.

Amazon UK updated its listing for Alan Wake Remastered with new screenshots for the game. There are two comparison shots for cinematic portions of the early game, so those new to Alan Wake don't really need to worry about spoilers.

We can already see plenty of improvements, including new character models, better textures, better lighting and shadows and more. This is more than a simple bump in resolution for modern displays.

While Remedy has yet to confirm this, it is believed that Alan Wake Remastered is being built on the Northlight Engine, which was previously used for Control. Some ray-tracing features are expected to be in place for the PC and Xbox Series/PS5 versions. While previous reports also claimed that the game would launch on the 5th of October, Remedy has not committed to that date yet, simply giving the remaster an ‘Autumn 2021' launch window.

KitGuru Says: Alan Wake Remastered is shaping up to be a decent upgrade over the original game. This is also the first time that the game will be available on the PlayStation platform, which will introduce even more players to the series over a decade later.
