Garry’s Mod successor ‘s&box’ finally launches later this month

Since as far back as 2017, Garry’s Mod creator Garry Newman has been working on a spiritual successor to the iconic Source Engine-based sandbox. Utilising Valve's new Source 2 Engine, Newman’s upcoming project – s&box – has now finally gotten an official release date.

Almost a decade after it was first announced (and years on from its initial closed tests) the long-awaited spiritual successor to the highly-popular Garry’s Mod is finally almost here, with the ‘game creation platform’ s&box officially launching on the 28th of April 2026.

No price has been given for the game, but considering that the original Garry’s Mod costs just £6.99 (and the fact that s&box focuses on revenue through user-generated content) expect it to be pleasantly affordable.

Garry’s Mod was a major part of Steam’s early success, with the creative platform garnering over 25 million copies sold throughout the years.

With s&box set to be everything its predecessor was and so much more, here’s to hoping that the past decade of work proves to be fruitful.
