Star Citizen Squadron 42 is coming to Steam in 2027

Star Citizen's ambitious single-player campaign, Squadron 42, has been in the works for a very long time now and like its massively multiplayer counterpart, it has seen plenty of delays. There now appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel though, as Cloud Imperium has revealed plans to release Squadron 42 in 2027.

Cloud Imperium Games announced over the weekend that it will now be releasing Squadron 42 in Q2 2027. The game has also been listed on Steam for the first time in preparation for its launch.

A new trailer for Squadron 42 was also released, giving us a glimpse at the journey ahead. While Star Citizen is an MMO style game where space exploration and co-op missions are the heart of the gameplay, Squadron 42 is a cinematic sci-fi shooter, with a star-studded cast including the likes of Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, Gillian Anderson and more.

Squadron 42 is set in the year 2945, with the United Empire of Earth on the verge of collapse and facing threats from outlaw groups and hostile alien forces.

Players will journey from capital ships and bustling space stations to remote frontier outposts and active combat zones, encountering diverse characters and challenges along the way.

There is no exact release date yet, but the game is expected in Q2, which would put its release anywhere from April to the end of June. For now, the game appears to be PC exclusive, but it may get a console release at some stage.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully Squadron 42 turns out to be a success. A lot of time and money has clearly gone into making it.
