Sekiro: No Defeat anime premieres January 2027

Back in 2023, reports first popped up claiming that an anime adaptation based on FromSoftware’s excellent Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was in the works. Two years later the project was officially announced in the form of Sekiro: No Defeat. Set to be distributed by Crunchyroll, the 8-episode series has finally gotten an official premiere date.

As reported by the anime giant Crunchyroll, Sekiro: No Defeat will be officially arriving early next year; premiering some time in January of 2027 and comprising 8 episodes in total.

That said, in a move which has become somewhat commonplace for anime nowadays, No Defeat received a theatrical cut designed for cinemas in Japan – having already been released earlier this month in a limited capacity.

Featuring a striking art style, solid animation and no AI, Sekiro: No Defeat will hopefully be worth checking out when it arrives early next year. The Synopsis for the anime reads as follows:

“The time is Sengoku. Japan is fractured into many independent nations entangled in ceaseless war. At the center lies Ashina, a land of sacred earth and ancient mystery. Two decades after Sword Saint Isshin Ashina reclaimed the region in a brutal coup, a new threat emerges from within: The Interior Ministry. Desperate to protect his homeland, Isshin’s grandson Genichiro turns to forbidden powers. The only hope lies in a kidnapped boy — the Divine Heir — and his silent protector: a loyal shinobi known only as Sekiro. This is the story of a lord and his retainer — and their quest to restore balance to a nation on the edge.”
