UK retailer GAME is pretty much dead as it enters into administration

For years now, the UK gaming retail giant ‘GAME’ has struggled to maintain its relevance, with the company slowly but surely getting rid of many of its services, shutting down tons of shops and ultimately being sold to Frasers Group. Unfortunately, the retailer has seemingly not been able to turn things around, with GAME UK now entering into administration once again.

As reported by the publication ‘The Herald Scotland’ former retail giant GAME UK has now entered into administration, owing a total of $15.8 million following investigations which began in April.

According to their findings “the company’s financial position continued to deteriorate during the final quarter of 2025, which historically had been one of the busiest trading months for the business,” adding that “Having reviewed the company financial and operational position…It was concluded that the business was no longer viable.”

Administration Game UK

What this means for the future of the company, we will have to wait and see. This isn’t the first time that GAME has entered into administration however, with the retailer suffering a similar fate back in 2012 – only to be saved by private equity firm ‘OpCapita’.

That said, the industry as a whole is in a very different place right now, and with Sony announcing that they will stop printing physical game discs by 2028, the prospects for GAME seem increasingly troubling.
