Today in the heart of NYC, Acer rounded up journalists to launch a slew of new products, from gaming peripherals and laptops, to full desktop systems and monitors. In this article, we'll be going over the launch of the Predator Orion 5000 desktop PC and the new Predator Large Format Gaming Display, delivering 4K/144Hz in a larger size compared to your typical monitor.

First up is the Predator Orion 5000, a mid-tower pre-built desktop system. It sits on the higher end of the spectrum with a $1,999.99 USD or €1,999.99 MSRP. Under the hood, you'll find an Intel Core i9-9900K CPU, a Z390 motherboard and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080. Depending on budget, you'll be able to add in more RAM (up to 64GB in dual-channel), and while this isn't confirmed, we assume storage upgrade options will also be available.

The chassis used for this system has been trimmed down to just 30 litres, making it smaller than the previous generation Orion desktop. Cooling has also seen an upgrade from an air cooler to a Cooler Master all-in-one liquid cooler. This also opens the door for safer overclocking on the Core i9-9900K as temperatures will be kept in check better.

As you would expect from a modern system, RGB lighting is included.

The second announcement today is (in my opinion) a little more exciting. At CES last year, Nvidia launched the Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) initiative, delivering 4K/144Hz in a massive 65-inch panel. Acer had its own BFGD on show at the time but now, the 65-inch model is getting a cheaper, smaller brother in the form of the Predator CG437K P LFGD (Large Format Gaming Display).

This is a 43-inch 4K/144Hz panel complete with DisplayHDR 1000 certification and AdaptiveSync. So you'll be getting a much bigger display, Ultra-HD resolution, the best HDR implementation currently available on PC and a high refresh rate for competitive gaming.

The panel used here is VA and covers 90 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The DisplayHDR 1000 certification means that it has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, so HDR movies and games will look vibrant, with popping colours and deeper black levels.

Since this is such a large monitor, you may want to plug in multiple devices and use it like a TV. In that case, there are three HDMI ports, a DisplayPort connection and a USB Type-C port.

Other features include a light sensor that can adjust brightness based on lighting in the room, and a proximity sensor that will wake the display up from standby when you sit in front of the monitor.

The Predator CG437K P LFGD will be available in the US and EU from September with a $1,299 or €1,499 price tag.

KitGuru Says: The Orion desktop system seems to have a sensible array of hardware but the new monitor is what really has me excited. With that said, I'll likely be sticking to 1440p for now while GPUs catch up to the demands of 4K at high frame rates. What do you guys think of the new Predator lineup so far?
