Apple expected to bring Touch ID back to iPhone in 2022

We have yet to see Apple's plans for this year's batch of iPhones and yet, we're already hearing details on what's to come in 2022. Next year, it is expected that Apple will finally introduce an under-display version of Touch ID, as well as a price cut for its cheapest iPhone. 

According to analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac), next year Apple should finally bring Touch ID back to the iPhone, with a new under-display fingerprint sensor. In addition to that, a camera upgrade is expected, bringing a 48MP wide-camera lens to the back of next year's iPhones.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the analysis is that Apple is expected to release four iPhone models in 2022, two flagship models with a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display, and two cheaper models with the same display sizes. Interestingly, the cheaper 6.7-inch iPhone is expected to have “the lowest price ever” for an iPhone of this size.

There may also be a smaller 5.4-inch ‘iPhone Mini' in 2022, a strategy that Apple has turned to in the past with devices like the iPhone SE.
