Flight Simulator GOTY Edition to get DX12 support and more

Microsoft Flight Simulator impressed many when it launched last year for PCs and earlier this year for the Xbox Series X|S. The game has seen many major updates over the past year, however on the 18th of November, the game is set to get its biggest upgrade yet.

Making the announcement on their blog, Jorg Neumann, the Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator announced that the game is set to get a Game of the Year Edition on the 18th of November. Unlike most, GOTY Editions, this one will be a free update to all, and will bring with it some major improvements.

This latest edition will bring with it 5 new aircraft; 8 new and handcrafted airports; new missions; new tutorials; new photogrammetry cities and more.

Perhaps the biggest upgrade however is the addition of DirectX 12 support on PC, which alongside major performance improvements, should allow for the game to support ray-tracing down the line – assuming the developer chooses to add the feature.

Another major addition is the inclusion of the Reno Air Races mode, which will offer a competitive multiplayer experience in the world of Microsoft’s Flight Simulator.

While the game was already impressive in its own right when it launched back in August of last year, the continuous updates – as well as this upcoming GOTY Edition – solidifies MSFS as the ultimate flight simulator. The full list of additions can be found HERE.
