Gothic 1 Remake surpasses 500K copies sold in first week

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have announced that Gothic 1 Remake sold over 500,000 copies during its first week across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The reimagined 2001 cult RPG also saw significant player engagement on Steam, peaking at nearly 78,000 concurrent players on June 7th.

Player feedback remains favorable, with the title gathering more than 21,000 Steam reviews and maintaining an 86% “Very Positive” rating. Game critics weren't as nice, with the game sitting at 72% (34 reviews) on OpenCritic, with only 55% recommending it.

Alkimia Interactive attributed this initial traction to a mix of newcomers and long-time fans of the 25-year-old franchise. Consequently, the studio plans to deliver ongoing support through further updates and refinements over the coming months.

This modern iteration features over 50 hours of gameplay content. It reconstructs the Kingdom of Myrtana and the Khorinis mines, where players control the Nameless Hero and navigate among three joinable factions. According to the publishers, the release includes a living world with scheduled daily NPC routines, as well as a modernised tactical combat system that preserves the original title's identity.
