Grand Theft Auto VI will easily be one of the biggest games of all time when it finally launches on the 19th of November, irrespective of the fact that it marks one of the few $80 video games to be released since Mario Kart World. Despite having yet to see any gameplay, the excitement surrounding GTA VI is palpable – with one analyst firm claiming that Rockstar might have already made almost half a Billion from pre-orders alone.
As reported by the analytics firm SensorTower, Rockstar’s GTA VI is already making more from its pre-orders than most games will see in a lifetime. While it should of course be taken with a pinch of salt, according to the publication, since pre-orders for GTA VI went live back in late June, the game has racked up a total of 4.38 million pre-launch sales.
Offering a bit of a breakdown, SensorTower claims that 77% of these sales can be attributed to PlayStation with 23% on Xbox. In total, Rockstar have reportedly already made around $429 million across the $80 and $100 editions of GTA VI.
Of course, this does not account for other money-making means, such as Rockstar’s marketing deal with PlayStation as well as the exclusive 6 hour window on Netflix for GTA VI’s next trailer (the latter of which is estimated to have cost as much as $100 million).
Either way, with GTA V selling almost a quarter of a Billion copies since 2013, it’s safe to say that the sequel will likely do just fine.
