AMD AM1 launch – Kabini brings APU to the masses

If you're only spending less than £299 on a PC, should you be expecting any kind of performance at all?

According to AMD Marketing Guru, Sasa Marinkovic, you should be expecting a lot.

Looking at the data provided by AMD, when you compare one of the new AM1 Platform APUs against the kind of Intel Pentium processor that you're likely to find at the entry level end of the market, then there is no comparison.

This data on comparative performance between one of the new AMD APUs and Intel's Pentium offer shows what they mean when played at 1080p – shown here with comparative results for PES2014:-

Most benchmark comparisons are related to game performance, but there's also ‘every day use'. For example, when you go to open a complicated PDF or a load of JPG images, you can be sitting there while a cheap PC constructs the page/moves back and forth in a gallery.

AMD has done its own testing here and is prepared to make the following claim about its image processing capability – using its own hardware/software combination as opposed to an Intel processor with no serious graphics and using the built-in software on a system:-
