Nvidia rumoured to replace RTX 5080 with new 24GB model

Nvidia is reportedly ceasing production of the GeForce RTX 5090 to redirect its flagship GB202 silicon exclusively to its professional RTX Pro lineup. New reports claim the company plans to focus its GPU supply on AI demand while introducing a 24GB RTX 5080 for high-end gamers.

MEGAsizeGPU (via Wccftech) reports indicate that the flagship GB202 chip, currently powering the RTX 5090, will be reserved entirely for workstation GPUs such as the RTX PRO 6000, 5500, and 5000. Rising DRAM costs and surging AI demand have pushed RTX 5090 pricing past $6000, prompting buyers in restricted regions to retrofit modified cards for AI servers despite export-compliant variants like the RTX PRO 6000D and RTX 5090D V2.

To compensate consumer markets, Nvidia seems to be preparing an RTX 5080 24GB graphics card featuring 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, according to hongxing2020. However, there have been plenty of rumoured product updates and refreshes for the Nvidia GPU line-up over the past generation, and most of them haven't amounted to anything so far.

KitGuru says: If the RTX 5090 really is being phased out, do you think we'll see an RTX 6090 next time around, or will Nvidia start to cap its gaming line-up?
