Team Xtreem LV 2133MHz CL9 8GB Memory Kit Review

The Team Xtreem LV 2133MHz CL9 memory kit contains a set of ultra-fast modules with plenty of overclocking headroom.

Out-of-the-box performance is impressive, thanks to the kits tight timings and high frequency. A CAS Latency of 9 and Cycle time of 28 indicates a tight configuration, especially when partnered with a 1T Command Rate. This aggressive timings configuration makes the Team Xtreem LV 2133MHz memory kit faster than many competing 2133MHz sets.

Overclocking performance is where the Xtreem LV modules really shine. Being able to reach 2600MHz with a safe voltage increase and an acceptable loosening of the timings is impressive. The stable overclocked configuration of 2600MHz and 11-12-12-28-1T timings allows the Team Xtreem LV memory kit to achieve excellent benchmark and real-world performance.

Appearance of the modules is a strong point. They may not be the most attractive option on the market, but the dark black heatsink and vibrant sticker can complement the style of many motherboards.

We like the fact that Team Group has used a solid metal heatsink which has a clear potential for rapidly conducting heat away from the memory chips. This high-performance heatsink design allows the modules to appeal to overclockers who want to push the voltage to high levels.

Unfortunately, many consumers will be put off by the 53mm-tall heatsinks. They will cause inconveniences when installing large CPU coolers, and can be considered unnecessary for users that don't plan on increasing the voltage to significantly higher levels.

At a price of £69.95 from OverclockersUK, the Team Xtreem LV 2133MHz CL9 memory kit represents poor value. The same kit, but instead with a CAS Latency of 11, is more than £30 cheaper. Amazon is even selling Kingston's 2400MHz HyperX Beast memory kit, which we reviewed here, for £24 less than Team Group's 2133MHz product.

If you are in the market for a high-performance, heavily-overclockable set of memory, the Team Xtreem LV 2133MHz CL9 kit is worthy of consideration. However, justifying the extra expense, in comparison to alternative options, will be very difficult.

Pros:

  • Plenty of overclocking headroom.
  • Excellent out-of-the-box performance.
  • Well-designed heatspreaders can allow for high voltage overclocks.

Cons:

  • Priced too high to be competitive.
  • Tall heatspreaders will cause inconveniences for many users.

KitGuru says: Worthy of consideration to overclockers and enthusiasts, but likely to be overlooked, in favour of cheaper alternatives, by most others.
