Seasonic Prime 850W Titanium Power Supply Review

There is no doubt in my mind that Seasonic are clearly onto a winner with their latest Titanium PRIME power supply series. The quality of power delivery is beyond reproach, entering the market right in the upper echelons of supplies currently available targeting the enthusiast audience.

The Prime series really is a showcase of engineering prowess that reaffirm Seasonic's position as market leader. The class leading 10 year warranty highlights company confidence regarding the technical implementation.

The appearance of a power supply will certainly be a matter of personal taste, but we appreciate that Seasonic have designed new units that are sleek and modern looking yet still follow a simple two tone ‘neutral' colour scheme. With the popularity of colour cordination, this is somewhat critical. Black and chrome/silver colours will compliment any system regardless of the coloured LED lighting incorporated.

The internal design of the Prime units is fantastic. They have created a cable free connection design with a copper plate connecting the main PCB to the back panel for increased reliability and enhanced performance. They have adopted high grade Nippon Chemi Con 105c rated capacitors in the primary stage, with 105c rated capacitors also incorporated into the secondary stage.

Technically it is difficult to find anything to fault. The Titanium rated power supply excels in load regulation and ripple suppression, hitting a top 2% of units we have tested in the last year. Power delivery is stellar – we were able to hold close to a 1000 watt load for an extended period of time without a problem. Over-specifying power delivery has been a Seasonic feature for some time, so it is reassuring to see that this has not changed in 2016.

The pure modular design and very low noise levels will suit an audience who are building either a low noise system or a high end media/gaming center for close to a television set in the living room.

While I could wax lyrical on the technical proficiency of the units, it is clear that Seasonic are confident they will last a long time, they are offering a full class leading 10 year warranty with every Prime unit they sell.
