Crystalmark is a useful benchmark to measure theoretical performance levels of hard drives and SSD’s. We are using V3.0.3. We test the Intel 750 drive and the mechanical Raid 0 configuration.
The SSD performs well, although it falls short of what we would expect from the Intel 750 drive. My colleague Luke tested the 1.2TB version of this drive over HERE. The Raid 0 hard drives perform very well, although I have to admit, I would probably break this configuration up and opt for slower speeds, but with added failure protection. It is worth pointing out that in a RAID 0 configuration, if a single drive fails, you lose everything.
Again, performance from the Intel 750 didn't reach close to expected results over 2000MB/s. We decided to look inside the Gigabyte BIOS configuration.
We set the BIOS to run in the UEFI mode and changed the PCIe slot Configuration from AUTO to GEN3 – forcing the system to use the maximum available bandwidth. The results increased to around 2,100MBps/900 MBps which seems more in line with what we would expect. If you own this board we would recommend you change this setting from AUTO (which seems to setting a GEN1 for the Intel 750) as shown above.
