Pokémon TCG Live enters open beta on PC and mobile

Since the release of Hearthstone, online card games have become increasingly popular. Other traditional TCGs like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic The Gathering have made the transition to digital offerings and soon, the Pokemon card game will be doing the same thing. Pokemon TCG Live just entered open beta on PC and mobile, offering a new way to quickly pick up and play the game.

There has been a digital version of the Pokemon TCG since 2010, but Pokemon TCG Live will replace it, while offering better features and visuals. As expected, you'll be able to transfer your cards from the old app to the new one, but users have already reported a few bugs with the beta importer tool.

There are multiple ways to get cards, but none include microtransactions. To earn cards, you can buy a physical pack for £3.99 that has a code that lets you redeem up to 400 cards. Alternatively, you can also complete in-app quests, log in daily, and win in-game tournaments to earn different currencies to buy booster packs. These currencies also let you purchase player items, deck sleeves and cosmetic items.

Currently, the app includes cards from the Pokémon TCG Black and White generation, up to the latest expansion, the Silver Tempest. However, you can only play with cards that belong to the latter, at least for now. The Pokémon TCG Live app is available for Android, iOS, PC and MAC.
