Developers are already working with Sony’s upgraded PS5 Pro

There have been a few PlayStation 5 Pro leaks recently. At this point, all signs are pointing to the upgraded console arriving later this year, featuring an overclocked CPU and a beefer GPU with greater ray-tracing abilities. Now, a new report has added to all of this, corroborating the specs, while also confirming game developer's plans to support the updated hardware.

The Verge has seen documents confirming the full technical specs for the PS5 Pro console. Additionally, sources told the outlet that game developers are already preparing patches to ensure compatibility with the new console and its improved feature set.

The PS5 Pro is being developed under the codename ‘Trinity', in keeping with Sony's habit of using Matrix-inspired codenames. The PSVR was developed under the codename Morpheus, as another example. The new console will use the same CPU that can be found in the current PS5, but with faster clock speeds. The GPU sees the most benefit, with additional hardware to improve ray-tracing. Naturally, a more powerful graphics card will also mean more robust performance modes, either with faster frame rates or higher graphical settings. Sony expects the new GPU to be around 45 percent faster than the standard PS5's.

Test kits are already readily available to game studios so that they can begin preparing game updates to support the new console. There is no word specific titles with planned support yet, but we would anticipate that Sony will have all of the major PS5 hits ready for the launch later this year.

KitGuru Says: How much do you expect the PS5 Pro to cost? Bearing in mind that the PS5 Pro launched at £550, I wouldn't be surprised to see this approaching £650 to £699 territory, particularly as Sony does not seem able to bring meaningful price cuts to the base PS5 at this stage.
