Tom Holland shares first look of him as Nathan Drake for Uncharted film

For years, Sony has struggled to get a film adaptation of its critically acclaimed Uncharted series off the ground. Though the project has seen over half a dozen directors sign onto the project, before ultimately dropping out, it appears as though the film might finally become a reality. Ahead of its scheduled July 2021 release date, the film’s lead, Tom Holland, has now shared a first look of him as Nathan Drake.

The photo, which was accompanied by the caption “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate. #uncharted” shows Tom Holland donning the classic dirty beige long sleeve top and trousers that Drake has worn (in one form or another) throughout the quintology of games.

Furthermore, around his neck is a necklace with the now iconic ring, which undoubtedly has the words “sic parvis magna” engraved into it. Despite portraying a younger version of Nathan Drake than players experienced in the video games, the character on show is undoubtedly Nathan Drake.

The image, which was only shared yesterday, has already amassed over 6.6 million likes on Instagram, with initial reactions appearing to be cautiously optimistic. It will be interesting to see what reactions are like once the first trailer drops. Though the idea of Holland portraying a younger Drake has been mostly accepted, many fans are still confused by the decision to cast Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s mentor/father figure, Sully.

Though film adaptations of video games have historically been less than stellar, hopefully this adaptation will benefit from some of Drake’s Fortune, with the film’s positive first look not ultimately being a Deception.
