Windows 12 is reportedly launching next year

Rumors have surfaced that Microsoft is preparing to launch Windows 12 in June 2024. This news has generated excitement in the Taiwanese PC industry, with major players such as Acer, Quanta, MSI, and Gigabyte expressing optimism about the potential financial benefits of the new generation of AI-powered PCs.

While the Commercial Times article (via Tom's Hardware) mentions the rumoured release date, no official statements from industry executives are included. It is believed that the source of the information may have been recent comments made by Acer Chairman and CEO Jason Chen and Quanta Chairman Barry Lam.

On Thursday, both senior executives attended the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition in Taipei. According to reports, Chen is cautiously hopeful about AI PCs helping accelerate the business via a virtuous cycle, where new AI PCs generate new AI app development, which needs more powerful AI PCs, which will help to create even better AI apps. Barry Lam from Quanta was more upbeat, emphasising the company's planned growth in three segments: AI PC, AI server, and AI automotive electronics. According to Lam, when Microsoft launches a new generation of Windows operating systems next summer, AI PCs will come one after another.

The first time we heard about a new Windows version was earlier this year when we saw that Intel Meteor Lake-S would support an unreleased Windows OS. Soon after, reports about Microsft developing new ARM processors for Windows 12 came to light.

KitGuru Says: Microsoft gave up on the idea of having one major OS with constant updates when it moved on from Windows 10. Now, it looks like we're heading back to the days of having a major revision every few years. Will you be getting Windows 12 when it comes out, or are you still happy with Windows 10 or Windows 11?
