Nokia expands its Originals smartphone family with new 5G handset

Nokia has announced three new smartphones are being added to its Originals series that will utilise the company’s new and hassle-free data roaming service. The new series of handsets include the 8.3 5G – Nokia’s first 5G Originals smartphone, as well as the Nokia 5.3, 1.3 and the Nokia 5310.

The 8.3 5G handset from Nokia is touted as being a future proof 5G smartphone designed to support evolving 5G networks with its compatibility for both standalone and non-standalone 5G combinations, something that network operators are rolling out around the world. Thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G platform, Nokia has created a cost-effective, usable handset covering 40 different radio frequency components in a single device.

Nokia has equipped the 8.3 5G with a powerful PureView quad-camera featuring ZEISS optics, with ZEISS Cinema capture and editor allowing for low-light video recording with OZO audio. The Nokia 8.3 5G is expected to be available during summer 2020 in a Polar Night colour scheme, priced at €599 for 64 GB models or €649 for 128 GB storage options.

Other new handset models being added to the Nokia Originals range include three value options. The Nokia 5.3 features a quad camera, powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 platform with a signature 2-day battery life. An integrated AI-powered camera allows users to capture great photos even in low-light conditions while the large 6.55” screen provides enough real estate to watch all your favourite content. The 5.3 handset is based on Android 10 OS for easy access to Google Assistant.

The Nokia 1.3 is another budget handset based on the Android 10 (Go edition) operating system and is one of the first smartphones to launch that includes Camera Go with low-light image fusion technology. A new Nokia 5310 puts a modern twist on the original Nokia 5310 Xpress Music with its MP3 player and FM radio. The 5310 includes powerful front-facing speakers and mixes the classic original design with a new sleek appearance and improved battery life.

In terms of availability of these low-cost handsets, the Nokia 5.3 will be available globally during April 2020 in three colour options priced at €189 for the 64 GB version. The Nokia 1.3 will also be available in April 2020 in the same Cyan, Sand and Charcoal colour options, priced at just €95, while the new 5310 is available this month in two colour scheme options, priced at €39.
