Microsoft sells 100 thousand Xbox One consoles in China in one week

Sales of Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One game console remain weak in Japan, but it seems like in China the company manages to sell considerably more systems. In just one week of availability the company sold 100 thousand Xbox One consoles in the contry.

Zhang Dazhong, a vice-president of Shanghai Media Group, the company that sells Xbox One consoles in China, said in an interview that sales of the system in China had topped 100 thousand units, reports Kotaku citing Chinese video games news site 17173. In total the companies plan to sell around a million Xbox One consoles in China by this time next year.

Microsoft’s Xbox One is the first foreign game console to go on sale in China after the government lifted a ban on sales of game systems in the country. Therefore, it is not surprising that popularity of the product is quite high in China.

By contrast, sales of Xbox One are rather weak in Japan and South Korea. Microsoft could only sell 30 thousand of Xbox Ones in Japan in the first month of availability, which is lower than sales of Xbox 360 in the first month of sales in the country.

Microsoft did not comment on the news-story.

KitGuru Says: Looks like China has a chance to save Xbox One sales in Asia, which is a particularly good news for Microsoft. But will increased sales in China catalyse game developers to create better titles for Xbox One because of strong sales in China? While this is possible, it is definitely not guaranteed…

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
