TonidoPlug 2 Small Home Server Review

Rating: 8.0.

Media and enthusiast-servers are growing in popularity as more people realise the benefits within a home environment; after all numerous computer systems, tablets, televisions and phones can be utilised in accessing media files. Media servers allow people to have media stored in one area which can then be streamed to multiple devices via a router.

For example, if you want to show your latest holiday pictures to family and friends on a new Smart TV then you can do so easily with a home server. Also, if you want to load that important PDF document on your phone without having to turn your computer on, then a media server is the perfect solution.

The TonidoPlug 2 is not like most media or home servers as it is small in size and has a tiny energy footprint. Let us take a closer look at the nifty little device.

  1. I have this device at home. Absolutely love it. Worth every penny. The most under appreciated device in the market.

I use it as my portable storage device and take it everywhere during my travel. It also works as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

  2. The TonidoPlug is a nice device running some really cool software. Couple of corrections: The Tonido Plug allows really full remote access to ALL your storage which could be terabytes of data unlike the limited capacity of online services like Google Drive etc.

Also, the TonidoPlug provides 2 GB of sync, not 256 MB as stated here, see https://store.tonido.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1

  3. Hi Mio,

Since I wrote this review it seems they have updated the device quite considerably and you are right that they are now offering 2GB of Sync Storage.
At this time of writing you can see this was the limit:
